What Does A Family Ski Day Look Like For A Hard-Charging Skier? Amy David's Disposable Camera Diary.

Welcome back to the second installment of our Disposable Camera Diary. We’re handing out cameras to the Pret crew to capture those unfiltered, authentic mountain moments that make us love sliding on snow.

This time, we’re following longtime Pret athlete and mountain powerhouse, Amy David. While she’s usually found charging steep lines for the big screen, Amy’s latest roll of film captures something even more special: a "mellow" family day at the legendary Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs.

How do you start your day? What happens before skiing?
Family ski days with my fiance and his daughter are much more mellow than big backcountry film outings. Both start with strong coffee and the gear roundup. Then we make sure everyone has snacks, water, and is ready to have a fun day.

What do you love most about time together as a family on the ski hill?
I remember how much fun I had as a kid finding hidden tree trails, building snow forts, and feeling like I was flying off jumps even if I only got a few inches of air. Seeing Cash experience the same feelings is like a walk down memory lane. It's all about people getting outside together and having fun sliding on snow.

What about this particular day was special?
Every Sunday, Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs offers free lift tickets for the day.I really love the old-fashioned wicket sticker tickets that remind me of the small hill in Wyoming where I grew up skiing. We spent the first few laps on small jumps in the terrain park so Cash could work on her goal of doing a backflip. Soon we moved to the steep, icy face where she overcame fear and learned to manage speed with controlled turns.

What's the most rewarding part of your day?
On family days, I step out of my role as a hard-charging skier to slow down and just play with no expectations. It's quite a contrast to film days when I'm pushing my own limits in steep challenging terrain, but with a mindset shift, it can be just as rewarding.

How do you end your day?
We ended the day eating a big soft pretzel with cheese!
