Trading Pixels for Powder: Giray Dadali’s Disposable Camera Diary

How do you start your day?
Ski days start with a sweet tangerine tea, stationary bike, and stretching before heading to the mountain. When I'm not skiing, I'm typically at the computer doing some form of engineering or company management work.

What happens before skiing?
Film days I'm checking avy forecasts and weather while warming up on the bike. Once arriving to the zone, I'm assessing snow and cross referencing with the objectives to make sure it all works. We usually adjust plans depending on conditions.

What do you love most about the crew vibes?
Rolling with a crew helps to get you fired up throughout the day. Other riders help to push each other and see what's possible! But mostly it's the in between things - the jokes and fun to be had.

Tell us where you went and about the day!
The first day was my wife's birthday. We went to solitude with a cheesecake and candles in the backpack to enjoy a nice view! Another day was a ski tour up Mount Superior. And the last day was out in Wolverine Cirque from Solitude with the crew–bluebird, 2 feet of fresh snow, the best of the season!

What made this particular day special?
Good ski days were hard to come by this winter. We experienced record warmth and the lowest snowfall ever. But these few days with the camera in particular were the best of the year after 50"+ of snow in the upper Wasatch.

What's the most rewarding part of your day?
It might be surprising, but like most people, I do spend 5 days a week behind a computer, even during the winter. If I'm out filming, I usually work for a couple of hours afterward or put in 10+ hours on my off days to make up for it. So the most rewarding part is when I save up my time for the right days and it goes off! Life is a constant trade of time and it's nice when that 1 day you lined up pays off.

Any daily rituals?
I try to ride a stationary bike every morning, and any time I'm posting on instagram I ride the stationary bike or hold stretching positions. I start most days with an intention - whether it is my work achievements or my exact skiing goals. Aim straight shoot straight as they say.

How do you end your day?
Chill with my cats and wife! followed by wayyyyyy too much time researching the weather.
